Teacher Fuel’s Modern Mastery PD course has been carefully designed to create a rich online learning experience for new and veteran teachers alike. At its core, this course is intended to share cutting edge and research-based practices with educators so as to bolster their practice, to refine their understandings of how students learn, and to transform what “teaching and learning” looks like in their classrooms.
It’s no secret that a significant gap exists between what teachers are taught in school as they complete their teacher preparation programs, and what cutting edge research has suggested about teaching and learning. Not only does this impact brand new teachers, because the curriculum of the vast majority of teacher prep programs haven’t quite caught up yet… it also impacts every single veteran teacher, unless they’ve made it a point to prioritize professional learning (which can be an incredibly expensive and time consuming endeavor).
Teacher Fuel’s Modern Mastery PD course bridges that gap by delving into the recent research and best practices associated with the following areas:
- Neuroscience and Learning
- Game-Based Learning
- Student-Centered Instruction
- Technology in the Classroom
How long should this take?
This course was originally designed to span four weeks, and each of the above topics were focused on each week. But, in an effort to increase the amount of control that you have over your own learning, every lesson has been unlocked from the get-go. That means that you can certainly binge through all of the course content, if that’s your intention — but, if you’re considering what an appropriate pace might look like, a safer (and saner) bet would be one topic per week, or one lesson (sub-topic) per day.
Additionally, all students are provided with a copy of Jay Meadows’ ebook, Time Hacking for Teachers: The Ultimate Handbook for Increased Productivity and Endless Summer. This ebook is brimming with tips and tricks to grade faster, to work smarter, and to create time for what matters. Download your copy right here.
How do the lessons work?
Each “lesson” is paired with a video module that you must watch in full in order for that particular lesson to be marked “complete.” (The only exception to this is the “Technology” portion.) At the completion of this course, once every lesson is marked “complete,” you will receive a certificate documenting your completion, and awarding you 20 professional development hours. (Note that while the video modules themselves are not 20 hours in length, time is built into each lesson to account for the lesson development and practical work you’ll be doing to put theory into practice.)
